A scammer who offered to procure an English language certificate for $1,100 was apprehended

A swindler who pledged to provide a TOEFL certificate in English was apprehended in Termiz, Surkhandarya region. This was declared today, March 30, by the Economic Crimes Combat Department.

The incident unfolded during a swift operation conducted in Termiz in collaboration with the Surkhandarya Regional Office and the Internal Affairs Department under the General Prosecutor's Office.

M.R., posing as trustworthy, duped A.T. by promising a TOEFL certificate for admission to a master's program and was apprehended with tangible evidence upon receiving $1,100 and 1.2 million soums.

"In light of this incident, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 168 (fraud) of the Criminal Code, and investigative actions are underway," the statement reads.

It's worth mentioning that this year in Uzbekistan, it was announced that not only the exam fee but also a six-month tuition fee would be covered for those achieving a high score in the international language proficiency exam.
