This announcement was made today, July 26, at a meeting of the Central Election Commission.
To enhance the role of representative bodies in addressing significant state matters, 33 powers previously held by governors have been transferred to local councils. The exclusive powers of the Legislative Chamber have been increased from 5 to 12, and those of the Senate from 12 to 18. Additionally, the Parliament's oversight functions over the activities of executive, judicial, law enforcement bodies, and special services have been expanded.
Furthermore, the election scheduled for October 27 this year will see many procedures fully automated, minimizing the human factor.
In this election, 150 deputies of the Legislative Chamber, 65 members of the Senate, 65 deputies of the Joqorgi Council of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, deputies of the regional and Tashkent city councils, and 208 district (city) councils will be elected. Approximately 30,000 candidates and about 90,000 of their authorized representatives are expected to participate in the election process. Over 120,000 members of the election commission will serve as organizers, with more than 70,000 local and international observers anticipated to participate.
It is also worth noting that the share of women nominated as candidates for deputy positions will be at least 40 percent.
