5640An Uzbek woman who was fraudulently taken to India and faced the threat of being forced into prostitution has been returned to Uzbekistan with the assistance of the country’s embassy. This was reported by Dunyo news agency.
According to the report, Indian law enforcement authorities informed the Consular Section of Uzbekistan’s diplomatic mission that a citizen identified as Z.T. was found in a distressed condition at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
Following this, the embassy established immediate contact with the citizen and brought her to the diplomatic mission. During the inquiry, it was revealed that Z.T. had been promised a job as a waitress in a Delhi restaurant by individuals named S. and K. However, upon arrival and after being accommodated in a hotel, Z.T. realized that she had fallen into a trap.
When she requested to return home, the individuals demanded she repay the costs of her travel and attempted to coerce her into providing sexual services. Z.T. managed to escape captivity and contacted local police for help.
In response, the Uzbek embassy provided emergency consular and legal support. With the aid of sponsoring organizations, a plane ticket was arranged for Z.T. to fly back to Tashkent.
It was also reported that the Uzbek authorities are now working with relevant Indian institutions to initiate legal proceedings against those who lured the citizen to India under pretenses with the intent to exploit her.
This case follows a similar incident in which a minor Uzbek citizen was brought to Turkey under fraudulent circumstances and later returned with the assistance of authorities.
