Every now and then, Uzbek households start preparing various jams and juices to prepare for the winter season, which further increases the need for sugar products among citizens.  Taking this into account, the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights reported that in 2023 there will be no shortage of sugar products in Uzbekistan.

It is reported that the government has developed necessary measures to prevent risks that may arise in the activities of local entrepreneurs producing and selling sugar products in 2023.

“There is enough sugar (1 million tons) to sustainably meet the annual needs of the population of the republic (650,000 tons on average) and there is no cause for concern,” the committee said.

Today, sugar is sold to the population at retail prices from 11,500 to 14,000 soms, and in some remote areas up to 12,000 to 15,000 soms.

It should be recalled that at the beginning of June 2022, the average price of 1 kg of sugar in the domestic market of Uzbekistan was 9,500-13,000 soms, and it was noted that it rose to 20,000 soms in some sales points.  Also, in addition to the increase in the price of sugar in neighboring and other CIS countries by 52% (from 14,000 to 21,000 soms in the equivalent of soms in neighboring countries), the problems and risks associated with the shortage of this product  had occurred.
