2854Kazakhstan's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurjigitov, met with representatives led by Winston Yu, the Head of the Global Practice Department for Water Resources Management in Europe and Central Asia at the World Bank. They discussed the Aral Sea and other joint projects, according to the Ministry of Water Management of Kazakhstan.
The World Bank representatives emphasized the importance of preserving the Aral Sea, not only for Kazakhstan but for all of Central Asia, and highlighted the success of the first phase of the project.
Additionally, the World Bank invited Kazakhstan to participate in the development of a regional program. This program will implement similar projects across all Central Asian countries and could serve as a continuation of joint efforts to reconstruct irrigation and drainage systems.
The Minister also invited the World Bank representatives to join efforts in automating the accounting and monitoring of water resources in transboundary rivers.
"In order to execute truly large-scale projects like island preservation, we are actively engaging our international partners and cooperating with neighboring countries. I hope that our collaboration with the World Bank on the second phase of the project will be as successful as the first phase," said Nurjigitov.
It is also worth noting that earlier this year, the World Bank forecasted that Kazakhstan would emerge as a regional leader.
