15054On March 23 of this year, 40-year-old Umida Tolaganova from Uzbekistan, who lived in the Bogchaliuy district of Istanbul, Turkey, was killed by 61-year-old Riza Beler, with whom she lived. He used a stone to murder her, and her body was dismembered and stored in a refrigerator. After a trial for this heinous crime, the perpetrator was sentenced to life imprisonment, with the charge being "premeditated and deliberate murder of a woman." Local publications have reported on this case.
The defendant, Riza Beler, and his lawyer participated in the court session held at the 2nd Serious Crimes Court of Bakirkoy District. During the court session, the public prosecutor explained his opinion in detail, pointing out that Riza Beler and the late Umida Tolaganova, who had lived together for 3 years, occasionally quarreled. The indictment revealed that Beler had planned to kill Tolaganova and had brought a paving stone into the house three months before the day of the incident. On the day of the crime, he had another man at the house with the defendant, Umida Tolaganova, and it is alleged that they had an argument, which culminated in him killing her by striking her on the head, face, and neck with the same stone.
Beler then amputated the victim's hands and placed them in the refrigerator. The prosecutor requested that Riza Beler be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment. Beler, in his final statement in court, expressed deep regret for the incident and offered an apology.
The jury sentenced Riza Beler to aggravated life imprisonment for the charge of "premeditated and intentional murder of a woman." The defendant's sentence cannot be reduced for reasons such as good behavior. We would like to remind you that, according to the preliminary investigation, the incident occurred on March 23 of this year at 05:30 in the morning in an apartment on the 3rd floor of a 4-story residential building. Riza Beler had informed Umida Tolaganova, with whom he had been living for an extended period, that he had obtained a loan of 17 thousand Turkish liras (approximately 891 US dollars) from the bank. A dispute arose between the two regarding the loan debt and previous debts. After the quarrel, Riza Beler killed Tolaganova with a stone and dismembered her body. Beler placed the dismembered pieces of Umida in garbage bags and stored them in the refrigerator.
Neighbors who heard the sounds of the couple's argument alerted the police. When the police arrived at the house in response to the call, they discovered the body of the deceased woman in the refrigerator and arrested the suspect, Riza Beler. During the investigation, it was revealed that the late Tolaganova had been in conflict with the suspect, Riza Beler, for an extended period. This conflict led to Beler's plan to kill the woman.
