Student influx: Where are foreign students in Uzbekistan coming from?

India remains the leading country sending students to Uzbekistan. In the first half of this year, 2,780 Indian nationals arrived in the country for educational purposes, according to the National Statistics Committee.

From January to June 2025, a total of 9,500 foreign citizens came to Uzbekistan to study, marking an increase of 1,400 people—or 17.3 percent—compared to the same period in 2024.

The breakdown of foreign students by country is as follows:

 India – 2,780
 Turkmenistan – 2,622
 Tajikistan – 1,145
 China – 459
 South Korea – 381
 Pakistan – 348
 Kyrgyz Republic – 263
 United States – 232
 Afghanistan – 167
 Turkey – 161
 Other countries – 988

For comparison, earlier data showed that in January–December 2024, Uzbekistan was a major source of outbound students to neighboring countries. That year, 35,900 Uzbek citizens went abroad for education—12,809 to Tajikistan, 8,629 to Russia, and 3,953 to the Kyrgyz Republic.
