Which region has the largest population in Uzbekistan?

A ranking of the most populous districts and cities in Uzbekistan has been announced. The National Statistics Committee reported this.

According to the Committee, as of April 1, 2026, the country’s permanent population had reached nearly 38.4 million people.

Namangan city topped the ranking, with a population of 731,300. Samarkand city ranked second, with 607,600 residents.

Urgut district in Samarkand region took third place, with 588,600 residents. Andijan city followed with 506,000 people, while Denov district in Surkhandarya region ranked next with 442,700 residents.

Three districts of Tashkent city were also included in the list: Olmazor with 419,600 residents, Yunusabad with 395,000 and Shaykhantakhur with 374,600.

The top 10 most populous areas also included Pastdargom district in Samarkand region, with 401,500 residents, and Asaka district in Andijan region, with 369,600 residents.

Thus, Namangan city was recorded as the most densely populated area in the country, surpassing not only regional centers but also major districts of Tashkent.

Earlier, it was reported that among regions, Samarkand region led in terms of permanent population, with 4,396,800 residents.
