Since the beginning of this year, customs authorities in Uzbekistan have prevented the illegal import of nearly 40 kilograms of jewelry. This was reported by the State Customs Committee.

Several smuggling attempts were uncovered at the border customs post of Tashkent International Airport, under the Tashkent-AERO specialized customs complex. One passenger arriving from Bangkok was intercepted after attempting to smuggle 121 grams of jewelry hidden among sweets in his luggage. The value of the jewelry was preliminarily estimated at over 180 million soums.

Another incident involved a citizen of a neighboring country arriving on a Tashkent–Istanbul flight, who attempted to smuggle 370 grams of jewelry valued at 350 million soums.

Additionally, among passengers arriving from Baku, a person was caught trying to smuggle gold jewelry decorated with diamonds, without declaring it at customs. This individual, also a citizen of a neighboring country, attempted to import jewelry weighing 74 grams and valued at approximately 130 million soums.

According to officials, customs inspections related to these incidents are ongoing.

In total, customs officers identified 252 cases of violations during the reporting period of this year. These involved attempts to smuggle approximately 40 kilograms of jewelry worth 24.3 billion soums across the border, as well as efforts to circulate them illegally within the country.

It should be recalled that earlier, customs officers at Tashkent International Airport intercepted a passenger boarding a flight to Munich, Germany, in possession of a gold bowl worth 135 million 200 thousand soums.
