Turkic studies scholar Nasimkhon Rahmon passes away

On November 10, Uzbekistan Writers’ Union member, literary scholar, Doctor of Philology, and professor Nasimkhon Rahmonov passed away at the age of 73, the Writers’ Union reported.
Nasimkhon Rahmonov defended his Candidate of Sciences dissertation in 1984 on the topic “The Poetics of the Kultegin Monument (8th Century)” and his Doctor of Sciences dissertation in 1991 on “The Orkhon-Yenisei Written Monuments and the Relation to Turkic Epics.” He was awarded the title of professor in 1993. Rahmonov also translated and published the two-volume work “Oltun Yorug” into Uzbek.
The scholar received several awards, including the New Turkey Strategic Research Institute Prize (Turkey, 2017), the Silver Medal of the International Turkic Academy (Astana, 2018), and the Gold Medal of the Assembly of the Peoples of Kazakhstan (2020).
Rahmonov’s works — including “Books Engraved in Stone” (1983), “The Voice of the Human Spirit” (1986), “In the World of Inscriptions” (1990), “The Turkic Khaganate” (1993), as well as textbooks, manuals, collections, and monographs such as “Ancient Turk-Run Inscriptions of Uzbekistan” and “Cultural Studies” — made a significant contribution to the development of Uzbek literary studies and Turkology.
It is worth noting that on October 21, 1989, linguist Bakhtiyor Isabek (Urdabekli), who made a significant contribution to granting the Uzbek language state language status, passed away at the age of 80.
