Six-year-old Uzbek boy dies after being trapped under tram in Türkiye (video)

A six-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan died in an accident at a tram stop in the Laleli area of Istanbul’s Fatih district on June 8, Halk TV reported.

The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul also confirmed the report. According to the consulate, the child had traveled to Türkiye as a tourist with his parents and relatives.

According to preliminary information, after getting off the tram, the minor became trapped between the platform and the tram rails. As the vehicle began moving, he sustained severe injuries and died at the scene.

Turkish law enforcement agencies are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.

“The Consulate General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Istanbul expresses its deep condolences to the family members and relatives of the deceased and is taking measures to provide the necessary consular and legal assistance,” the statement said.

The Consulate General advised citizens to take into account Istanbul’s busy road and public transport infrastructure as a major metropolis, not to leave minors unattended and to pay special attention to their safety.

Earlier, it was reported that a 29-year-old Uzbek woman had died by suicide in Türkiye.
