Uzbek chess star Sindorov defeats Carlsen in $750,000 tournament

On February 7, the prestigious Freestyle Chess Grand Slam tournament kicked off in Weissenhaus, Germany. The tournament, featuring some of the world’s top chess players, has already delivered major surprises.

Uzbek grandmaster Javohir Sindorov stunned the chess world by defeating Norwegian chess legend Magnus Carlsen in the 5th round with the black pieces. This victory has placed Sindorov among the tournament leaders.

So far, Sindorov has accumulated 4.5 points out of 5 rounds, sharing the lead with American grandmaster Fabiano Caruana. Notably, in the 4th round, Sindorov held a draw against the reigning world champion, Gukesh Dommaraju of India.

Another Uzbek grandmaster, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, is also competing in the tournament. After five rounds, Abdusattorov has 2.5 points, placing him 4th in the standings.

The Freestyle Chess Grand Slam will continue until February 14, with a total prize pool of $750,000 at stake.
