Shavkat Mirziyoyev awards ICESCO Director General with order

On July 10, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Salim Al-Malik, who arrived in Uzbekistan to take part in the First International Forum on Islamic Civilization. The Presidential press service reported this.

It was noted that the meeting addressed issues of further expanding the multifaceted partnership between Uzbekistan and this influential institution of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The consistent development of practical cooperation with the international organization was noted with satisfaction.

An ICESCO chair is operating at the International Academy of Islamic Studies of Uzbekistan. This year, the organization’s office was opened in Tashkent. In February, following the latest meeting of the Islamic World Heritage Committee, seven tangible and intangible heritage sites of the country were included in the ICESCO list.

During the conversation, special attention was paid to the restoration, protection and digitalization of cultural monuments and manuscripts, the broad promotion of Uzbekistan’s rich historical heritage through international media platforms, as well as the organization of joint events.

At the end of the meeting, the President of Uzbekistan awarded Salim Al-Malik the high Order of Dustlik for his personal contribution to widely promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Uzbek people.

Earlier, Shavkat Mirziyoyev awarded Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims’ Board, Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, the Order of El-Yurt Hurmati of Uzbekistan for his significant contribution to the scholarship of the Muslim world.
