A tragic explosion occurred at a gas station in the Kattakurgan district of the Samarkand region on May 7, claiming the lives of two people and injuring another. The incident was confirmed by the Committee for Industry, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety.
According to preliminary reports, the explosion happened at approximately 15:06 during the refueling of a ZIL truck at the gas station owned by “YIGITALI” LLC, located in the “Koshtepa” neighborhood. The fire broke out as fuel was being pumped into two 10-cubic-meter above-ground tanks in the station's yard.
Emergency services responded promptly, but two individuals died at the scene, and one person was taken to the hospital with injuries. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
This incident follows a similar tragedy that occurred on December 17, 2024, in the Fergana region, where a gas station explosion claimed four lives and left several others injured. On that day, 13 victims were brought to the local branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Assistance. Among them, one was declared dead on arrival, while others suffered extensive burns and severe injuries. Despite intensive medical care, some of the critically injured patients later died due to complications from thermal burns and burn shock.
Authorities continue to investigate both incidents, and safety concerns at fuel stations are once again in the spotlight.
