The chief specialist of the Samarkand regional department of the Inspection for Technical Regulation has been caught accepting a $2,500 bribe. The incident was reported by the State Security Service (SSS).
According to the report, the official allegedly exaggerated the violations discovered during an inspection of a brick factory belonging to an LLC in the Pakhtachi district. He falsely claimed that the factory had produced and sold 226 million soums worth of substandard brick products.
The specialist then demanded a \$3,000 bribe from the factory representatives in exchange for reducing the fine from 226 million soums to just 25 million soums in the final inspection report.
During a special operation carried out by the SSS, the official was caught red-handed in his office while receiving $2,500, with material evidence seized on the spot.
A criminal case has been opened against the official under Part 2, Clause "c" of Article 210 (Bribery) of the Criminal Code. A preventive measure in the form of arrest has been applied, and investigations are ongoing.
It is worth recalling that a similar corruption case recently occurred in the Oltinsoy district of Surkhandarya region, where a cadastral officer was caught accepting a 300 million soums bribe in exchange for the illegal sale of state reserve land for 1.1 billion soums.
