A 21-year-old driver responsible for a fatal traffic accident in the Urgut district of Samarkand has been sentenced to 9 years and 6 months in prison. This was reported by the Traffic Safety Service of the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The accident occurred on July 29 of this year, at around 12:30 p.m. on the 5th kilometer of the "Urgut-G'os-Avazmergan" highway, passing through the "Khojaguzar" neighborhood in Urgut district. The driver of a Cobalt car, born in 2003, lost control while driving and collided head-on with a Damas car driven by a man born in 1991.
As a result of the crash, the driver and passenger of the Damas vehicle died instantly, while another passenger passed away in the hospital. Additionally, two other passengers in the Damas vehicle and the driver of the Cobalt sustained injuries and were treated at the district medical association.
The driver of the Cobalt car was found guilty of violating traffic safety rules under Article 266, Part 3 "a" of the Criminal Code (Violation of the safety rules of the movement or use of vehicles) and has been sentenced to 9 years and 6 months in prison, along with a 9-year driving ban.
For context, earlier this year, a bus driver responsible for the death of several schoolchildren in Bukhara was also sentenced to 9 years in prison.
