President orders revision of excise tax and customs duties on imports of some food products

Uzbekistan will review excises and customs duties on the import of foods such as sugar, flour, oil, meat, tea, infant food and dairy products. The headquarters of the Republic, headed by the Prime Minister, must submit a proposal to the president within three days. The Head of State made this statement today, 31 March, during a video-conference devoted to macroeconomic stability, the development of regions and industries in connection with the difficult situation in the world economy, thus improving the well-being of the population.
It was noted at the meeting that the prices of meat, milk, potatoes, eggs, and rice remained stable on the markets, thanks to the prompt practical assistance provided.
“So, if we work, the results will be positive,”- the president said.
The president instructed the republican staff to take the necessary measures on price on a daily basis to eliminate the situation in the market under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister:
- the repayment period of 500 billion soms of preferential resources, previously allocated for the import of essential food products, will be extended until the end of the year;
- meet all food producers within a week and implement a system of day-to-day solutions to their problems;
- daily monitoring of the full supply of food and raw materials on the stock market and timely measures to prevent artificial price increases;
- a reasonable proposal within three days to revise excises and customs duties on the import of foodstuffs such as sugar, flour, oil, meat, tea, baby food, dairy products.
