On May 13, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia, Eduards Stiprais. The meeting was reported by the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, Eduards Stiprais conveyed greetings and best wishes on behalf of the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
The parties discussed the expansion of bilateral and regional cooperation, particularly within the framework of decisions made at the first Central Asia–European Union summit held in Samarkand in April this year.
Special attention was given to the swift development and implementation of specific investment, financial, and technical cooperation projects with a total value of 12 billion euros.
The two sides also exchanged views on current regional issues and reviewed plans for upcoming joint events.
It is worth recalling that on April 2, Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen visited Samarkand to participate in the first high-level Central Asia–European Union summit. On April 3, President Mirziyoyev held meetings with both EU leaders, during which an agreement was signed to establish a regional office of the European Investment Bank in Tashkent.
On April 4, they also took part in the inaugural Central Asia–EU summit and the Samarkand International Climate Forum.
