Counterfeit medicines seized in Andijan

The sale of substandard medicines worth 310 million soums has been prevented in the Andijan region, the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.

According to the statement, during a joint operation conducted by the Department’s Khojaabad district branch in cooperation with the Customs and Internal Affairs bodies, a Nexia-1 vehicle driven by citizen A.A. was inspected. During the inspection, 7,260 units of uncertified medicines were found in the car’s cabin and trunk.

Further investigation revealed that A.A. had obtained the medicines from citizen A.S. As a result, during a search of A.S.’s house in the ’’Sadoqat’’ neighborhood, 18,786 units of 34 types of medicines worth a total of 310.6 million soums were seized as material evidence.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 186-3 of the Criminal Code (manufacturing, preparing, acquiring, storing, transporting, or selling substandard or counterfeit medicines or medical products; selling medicines or medical products outside pharmacies or their branches). An investigation is underway.

Earlier, it was reported that in Fergana, the sale of uncertified medicines worth 8 billion soums and medical equipment worth 400 million soums had been prevented.
