On July 11, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, received the ambassador of the Taliban interim government in Afghanistan, Abdul Ghaffar Teravi, in Tashkent. The meeting was announced by the minister on his social media pages.
“We discussed current issues on the bilateral and regional agenda. We always support sustainable development in Afghanistan,” the Foreign Minister wrote.
According to Saidov, integrating Afghanistan into regional and global supply chains remains a key priority. He noted that enhancing economic cooperation, deepening interdependence, and fostering active partnerships contribute to the stability and prosperity of the broader region.
For reference, in February 2024, Uzbekistan officially handed over the Afghan embassy in Tashkent to representatives of the Taliban interim government. Abdul Ghaffar Teravi began his duties as head of the Afghan diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan in late September of last year and first met with Saidov on October 9.
It should be noted that on June 11 of this year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Nuriddin Azizi, the Acting Minister of Industry and Trade of the Taliban interim government, during the Tashkent International Investment Forum. On July 3, the President also held talks with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Acting Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Taliban, during the Economic Cooperation Organization summit in the Azerbaijani city of Khonjendi.
