Three girls drown in artificial reservoir in Jizzakh

Three underage girls drowned after entering an artificial reservoir for swimming in Mirzachol district of Jizzakh region, the spokesperson for the Prosecutor General's Office, Hayot Shamsutdinov, told QALAMPIR.UZ.

According to the official, the incident occurred at around 1:00 p.m. on July 17. The girls entered an artificial reservoir that had been excavated on farmland in the Paxtazor mahalla for drip irrigation purposes. All three drowned. Two of the victims were 17 years old, while the third was 15.

Forensic medical examinations were conducted to determine the cause of death. According to the preliminary conclusion of the district forensic examination branch, the girls died from mechanical asphyxia caused by obstruction of the upper airways with water.

The Prosecutor's Office of Mirzachol district is currently conducting a pre-investigation inquiry into the incident.

Earlier, three underage boys drowned in the Zarafshan River in Navoi region after going there to swim.
