25742In the updated World Happiness Report for 2024, Finland has been named the happiest country in the world for the tenth consecutive year, with a score of 7.741.
The report, which has been published since 2002, utilizes statistical analysis of Gallup poll data from 143 countries over the past three years. It assesses happiness based on six key categories: GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to choose one's life, generosity, and levels of corruption.
To compare happiness levels effectively, researchers created a fictional country called Dystopia, representing "the world's least happy people." Actual countries were then measured against Dystopia's low scores in each category to determine their composite happiness scores.
In this year's ranking, six of the top seven happiest countries are in Northern Europe, with Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Israel, the Netherlands, and Norway following Finland in that order.
Afghanistan was identified as the least happy country, ranked 143rd due to low life expectancy and GDP per capita, compounded by the impact of the Taliban's governance. Lebanon (2,707), Lesotho (3,186), Sierra Leone (3,245), and Congo DR (3,295) round out the bottom five.
Uzbekistan ranked 47th in the world happiness index, making it the highest-ranked among CIS countries. This is an improvement from 54th place in 2023, reflecting a rise of 0.18 points in the happiness score.
Additionally, Uzbekistan was listed in 99th place in a separate ranking of the best countries for starting a career.
