6004On April 25, the European Union allocated 6 million euros (approximately 82 billion soums) to aid agricultural reforms in Uzbekistan, as announced by the EU delegation in Tashkent.
The funding aims to bolster food security, nutrition strategies, and program budgeting guidelines. Moreover, technical assistance from the EU will aid in planning agricultural reforms within Uzbekistan's Ministry of Agriculture.
"The agricultural and food sector holds great significance for Uzbekistan's economy, serving as a major employment source. Moreover, a significant portion of locally consumed meat and vegetable products originate from family farms. Thus, our focus lies on reforms facilitating adaptation to climate change, environmental protection, sustainable food production, and integration into local and global value chains," stated Charlotte Adrian, the EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan.
The sustainable agro-food sector ranks among the top three strategic priority areas outlined in the European Union's multi-year indicative program for Uzbekistan (2021-2027). Other priorities encompass good governance, inclusive development, and environmentally conscious, digitally driven growth. Since 2021, the program has allocated 76 million euros (nearly 1 trillion soums) to Uzbekistan.
The European Union leads in providing grants for Uzbekistan's agro-food sector, extending support through a 20 million euro grant and allocating 32.5 million euros for agricultural sector reforms from 2020 to 2023.
