In October 2021, Danil Yakovlev (water polo sport), an Uzbek athlete, was found to have a prohibited substance called Meldonium in a doping test obtained in the out-of-competition period. This was reported by the Ethics Commission under the National Anti-Doping Agency of Uzbekistan.

Thus, Yakovlev was disqualified for 3 years from 9 December 2021 to 8 December 2024 for anti-doping offenses under Article 2.1 of the World Anti-Doping Code.

Previously, the National Anti-Doping Agency of Uzbekistan (UzNADA) reported how many Uzbek athletes were determined to have been doping in 2021.
