The number of ministries and agencies in Uzbekistan will be reduced from the current 61 to 28.  President Shavkat Mirziyoyev mentioned this in his address to the chambers of the Oliy Majlis today, 20 December.

“In the first stage, the ministries will be reformed, and the government’s work style will also be fundamentally changed.  First of all, the number of ministries and departments will be reduced from the current 61 to 28.

Now each ministry is responsible for the implementation of state policy in the relevant field, and leads the committees, agencies and inspections within the network,” says Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Also, the number of civil servants will gradually decrease by 25-30 percent.

“Many ministers will change.  Those that remain a minister will be deeply knowledgeable in his field, selfless and one whose work the people are satisfied with.  I think this approach is fair.

The number of civil servants will gradually decrease by 25-30%.  The saved funds will be directed to social issues.  The political status of each minister, his responsibility to the President, Parliament and the public will be increased.  Accordingly, the responsibility is strengthened.  They will be given sufficient authority and funds to solve the problems of the population.  “Openness, legality, effectiveness and quality will be the main criteria in the activities of the ministries,” the President said.
