It was previously reported that the Competition Committee identified violations of the law by "Uztemiryulyulovchi" JSC and imposed a financial penalty. In response to this, "Uztemirulyulovchi" JSC issued a statement addressing the situation.

According to the Competition Committee, the Fergana branch of "Uztemiryulyulovchi" JSC collected approximately 660 million sums in excess brokerage fees from 606,380 tickets sold at railway stations in 2023.

"Uztemiryulyulovchi" JSC referenced the "Rules for the Transportation of Passengers, Baggage, and Cargo by Railway Transport in the Republic of Uzbekistan," specifically paragraph 147. This section states that "The full price of a ticket on intercity passenger trains is determined taking into account the actual expenses related to the organization and service of these trains and shall be reviewed and approved by the finance departments of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the city of Tashkent."

For context, the ticket price for this branch's intercity passenger train has remained unchanged for eight years. The fare for the "Kokand-Margilan-Andijan" route is currently set at 12,000 sums. However, the actual cost of transportation per passenger amounts to 30,000 sums, indicating that the expenses are not covered by the current fare. The ticket price was approved by the Fergana branch of "Uztemiryulyulovchi" JSC in coordination with the finance department, while the brokerage fee (3,000 sums) was independently determined by the carrier. In this context, it has been reported that the claims of unjustified extortion of money from passengers, as published by the Fergana branch, will be reviewed by the Appeal Board of the Committee or in court.
