At the 17th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee held in Rabat, Morocco, Uzbekistan's silk industry and Khoja Nasriddin's anecdotes were included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.  This was reported by the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage.

It was reported that Uzbekistan, together with Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Turkey, presented the first film entitled "Traditional silk production for sericulture and weaving."  The second nomination is called "Traditions of retelling anecdotes about Khoja Nasreddin" and was prepared by Uzbekistan in cooperation with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Turkey.

The evaluation commission of the committee highly appreciated the joint activity of the countries participating in the preparation of candidacy documents and noted their compliance with all criteria for inclusion in the representative list.

The participants of the event paid special attention to the traditional technologies of silk cultivation and the significant work being carried out in the development of sericulture in Uzbekistan in recent years.  The statue of Khoja Nasreddin, famous among the population, erected in the city of Bukhara aroused great interest among the participants.

"Now the new elements are internationally defined as an integral part of the entire human heritage, and this serves to significantly increase the recognition and wide promotion of these types of intangible cultural heritage.  In turn, UNESCO promotes these elements by implementing various projects," the ministry said.

For information, the total number of elements of Uzbekistan included in the Representative list reached 11.  Previously, this list included "Bakhshi", "Lazgi", "Palov", "Askiya", "Miniature", "Navroz", "Shoshmaqom" and others.  The Margilan Craft Development Center for the preservation of traditional technologies of atlas and adras preparation is included in the register of leaders in the preservation of intangible cultural heritage.
