Where are Uzbeks mostly going to study?

Uzbeks are studying abroad mainly in Tajikistan, according to data from the National Statistics Committee.

Between January and August 2025, a total of 20.7 thousand Uzbeks traveled abroad for educational purposes. This represents a decrease of about 5.1 thousand people, or 24.6 percent, compared to the same period last year.

The largest number of students went to Tajikistan — 5,270 people. Russia ranked second with 4,649 students, followed by Kyrgyzstan with 3,064, South Korea with 2,309, and Türkiye with 1,538 Uzbek students. Additionally, 874 students went to Kazakhstan, 797 to China, 567 to the United Kingdom, 285 to Germany, and 256 to the United States.

According to the data, Uzbek youth still prefer universities in neighboring countries. However, in recent years, interest in studying in countries such as South Korea and Türkiye has been steadily increasing.

It is worth noting that earlier, data were published on which destinations Uzbeks most frequently travel to.
