Statistics reveal leading causes of death in Uzbekistan

The primary cause of death among Uzbekistan's population remains diseases of the circulatory system, according to a report by the Statistics Agency.  

In 2024, a total of 174,400 deaths were recorded in the country, an increase of 1,600 deaths compared to 2023. Of these:  
- 96,000 were men  
- 78,400 were women  
- 98,200 occurred in urban areas  
- 76,200 occurred in rural areas  

The breakdown of causes of death is as follows:  
- Circulatory diseases: 57.6%  
- New tumors (neoplasms): 9.4%  
- Respiratory diseases: 6.3%  
- Accidents, poisoning, and injuries: 5.8%  
- Digestive system diseases: 4.1%  
- Infectious and parasitic diseases: 1.1%  
- Other causes: 15.7%  

On January 24, at the third plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Senator Kutbiddin Burhonov, Chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security, highlighted road safety concerns. In 2024, Uzbekistan recorded:  
- 9,364 road accidents  
- 2,203 fatalities  
- 8,901 injuries  

The data underscores the pressing need for addressing both public health and road safety challenges in the country.
