Uzbekistan’s Umida Omonova Crowned World Champion in Rapid Chess

Umida Omonova, a talented chess player from Uzbekistan, has emerged victorious as the world champion in the World Rapid Chess Championship held in Georgia. The Chess Federation of Uzbekistan has confirmed this remarkable achievement.

From June 6 to 8, the city of Batumi in Georgia hosted the World Championship for girls under 18 years of age. Representing Uzbekistan, Umida Omonova secured the gold medal in the “Girls 18” category of the rapid cadet and youth competition.

In addition, Mumtazbegim Sobirova, competing in the “Girls 08” category, clinched the silver medal in the “World Cadet & Youth Rapid Championships 2023” by accumulating 8 points.

It is worth noting that the tournament witnessed the participation of over 450 chess players from 35 countries, competing across 12 groups. Uzbekistan was represented by a total of 21 chess players.
