An Uzbek Boxer will be Boxing for the World Boxing Association Belt

Uzbek professional boxer, Otabek Kholmatov, is set to compete for the WBA (World Boxing Association) belt, according to an announcement made by the organization on their Twitter page. Kholmatov will be facing off against Leigh Wood from England, who currently holds the WBA belt, in the welterweight division.

"The WBA organization has officially ordered WBA lightweight champion Leigh Wood to defend his belt against Otabek Kholmatov.  If Wood refuses to defend, the WBA will be forced to declare a vacancy for the world championship belt," stated the organization.

For reference, Otabek Kholmatov was born in 1998 in the Sirdarya region.  He embarked on his professional boxing career in 2021.  Hailing from Uzbekistan, Kholmatov has emerged victorious in all 11 of his professional boxing matches, with an impressive record of 10 knockouts out of his 11 fights.
