A 14-year-old girl chess player from Uzbekistan becomes the world champion

Afruza Khamdamova secured the championship among chess players under 14 years of age at the World Youth Championship held in Italy.


In the contests hosted by the city of Montesilvano, Afruza scored 9 points in 10 rounds, leading all her rivals by 1 point. In the crucial 10th round, Khamdamova faced Russian player Anna Shukhman. Despite a challenging situation, Afruza emerged victorious in the end.


It is noteworthy that Gulrukhbegim Takhirjanova and Bakhora Egamberdiyeva have also clinched the vice-championship titles in their respective age categories.
