An environmental ranking of 14 administrative centers in Uzbekistan has been compiled, evaluating cities on a 100-point scale. Namangan emerged as the greenest city, scoring 62.29 points. This was reported by the National Climate Change Center under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change.

Samarkand secured second place with 61.13 points, while Navoi City came in third with 59.5 points.

The ranking of ecologically sustainable cities was based on seven criteria: air quality, land use, transport, water, waste, sanitation, and energy. Nurafshon city in the Tashkent region scored the lowest overall but was noted for having the cleanest air.

Samarkand and Urganch ranked second and third in air quality, respectively. Termiz recorded the worst air quality.

Samarkand, Karshi, and Namangan achieved the highest scores for land use. Nukus and Navoi had the lowest. The evaluation considered factors like green space, parks, gardens per capita, population density, and heavy industry.

It is important to note that, compared to other areas, land use levels are very poor in most cities across the republic.

For transport, the study examined the number of vehicles per person, the city's transport strategy, and traffic congestion solutions. Andijan, Karshi, and Nukus ranked in the top three, while Tashkent had the worst organized transport.

The fourth area assessed was water management, including per capita water availability, waste, standards for water improvement, and wastewater usage. Termiz, Andijan, and Namangan performed relatively well in this category.

Nukus excelled in waste collection, disposal, and recycling, scoring 8.59 points, while Bukhara had the poorest performance, scoring 0 points in waste management efforts.

Sanitation, the sixth category, assessed public awareness of sanitation rules, sewerage connectivity, and adequate toilet facilities. Tashkent ranked highest, followed by Navoi and Jizzakh.

The final category analyzed energy and sulfur dioxide (SO₂) levels. This included per capita energy consumption and strategies to reduce energy-related carbon emissions. Navoi, Bukhara, and Termiz ranked highest, while Nurafshon scored 0 points in this category.
