7673Uzbekistan is set to implement a procedure for assigning age-related pensions proactively, eliminating the need for individuals to submit applications. This was reported by the press service of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
The Committee on Labor, Healthcare, and Social Affairs of the Chamber has preliminarily reviewed a draft law aimed at improving the process of assigning and distributing benefits. The proposed legislation introduces amendments to the laws "On State Duty" and "On Employment of the Population," focusing on pension assignments and benefit payments.
Under this new procedure, citizens who reach the official retirement age—60 for men and 55 for women—will automatically receive their pensions within one day. This will be based on their work history, salary, and other relevant data retrieved from government information systems, without requiring a formal application.
Currently, citizens must apply for a pension upon reaching retirement age by registering with the Pension Fund department at their place of residence, the Center for Public Services, or the Unified Interactive Public Services Portal. The draft law seeks to streamline this process and reduce bureaucratic hurdles.
Additionally, the law introduces a provision allowing citizens to proactively decline their pension if they wish to continue working after reaching retirement age.
Lawmakers believe these changes will enhance the quality of state services related to pension provision and improve efficiency by removing unnecessary administrative barriers.
The draft law is currently being prepared for discussion among political party factions.
Meanwhile, it should be recalled that on September 25, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution titled **"On Organizational Measures to Develop a Concept for Reforming the State Pension System."** The resolution established a working group tasked with analyzing current issues in the pension system and developing reform proposals based on international best practices. The group is expected to present a draft concept for pension system reform by March 1, 2025.
