A nationwide charity cleanup will be held in Uzbekistan on August 22–23 this year. Government decree No. 516 was enacted on August 13.

According to the decree, the nationwide charity cleanup (hashar) will take place on August 22–23 under the slogan “A prosperous and flourishing neighborhood – the pride of the nation,” in honor of the upcoming Independence Day. The cleanup aims to beautify locations such as neighborhoods, residential areas, gardens, parks, pilgrimage sites, and cemeteries.

The cleanup dates coincide with the weekend. A nationwide hashar may only be carried out if there is a corresponding Presidential decree or a government decision regarding a nationwide community work campaign, according to the Cabinet of Ministers’ 2018 resolution “On additional measures to eliminate forced labor in the Republic of Uzbekistan.”

Furthermore, the resolution states that hashar must be conducted strictly within the premises of the organizations where participants are employed, in full compliance with labor protection and safety regulations. Activities during the hashar will be limited to landscaping, greening, and organizing workplaces, while compulsory involvement in any other types of public work, including construction, repair, and agricultural activities, is strictly prohibited.

In addition, hashar and other activities are prohibited on roads, busy streets, water bodies, coastal areas and zones, construction sites, roofs of buildings and structures, hazardous production facilities, and any other locations where there may be a risk to human life or health.
