1805Today, February 12, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis discussed and adopted a draft law that provides for reducing the sentence of prisoners who read one book by three days. This was reported by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
The draft law introduces a new Article 74-1 to the Criminal Code to promote the moral correction of prisoners by involving them in reading books. According to the law, only prisoners required to serve their full sentence will have their sentence reduced by three days if they read one book from the approved list and pass an exam in the prescribed manner.
Additionally, based on Articles 73 and 74 of this Code, early conditional release or replacement of the sentence with a lighter one will be considered when deciding on early release.
It is also planned to amend Article 536-1 of the Criminal Procedure Code and Article 80-1 of the Criminal Executive Code with provisions on reducing the term of punishment through self-education and access to necessary literature.
We would like to remind you that earlier in Uzbekistan, from May 1 of this year, a one-time allowance amounting to six times the minimum wage will be paid to persons released from places of deprivation of liberty through the "Inson" social service centers.
