10840On March 19, Uzbekistan adopted a law to establish the honorary title of “Distinguished Ecologist of the Republic of Uzbekistan.” This announcement was made by the Ministry of Justice.
The title will be awarded to individuals who achieve significant results in developing ecology and environmental protection, preserving nature and biodiversity, mitigating the impacts of climate change, and ensuring the sustainable use and restoration of natural resources.
It will also recognize those who demonstrate leadership in advancing eco-friendly and innovative technologies, expanding green spaces, and promoting afforestation. Additionally, it will honor specialists who work tirelessly to raise public ecological awareness, instill respect for nature in younger generations, and train highly qualified personnel in the field. Eco-activists involved in public environmental oversight are also eligible for the title.
The law will take effect upon its official publication.
The draft law proposing the title of “Distinguished Ecologist” was first introduced for public discussion in May 2022. On September 19, 2023, during a presentation on environmental and tourism initiatives, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev supported the idea of incentivizing active and dedicated individuals by establishing this honorary title.
