A citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan, wanted on criminal charges, has been detained in the United States and repatriated to Uzbekistan. The arrest was made possible through effective cooperation between the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Uzbekistan (Interpol NCB) and U.S. law enforcement agencies, according to a statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The individual was being sought on charges of large-scale embezzlement, as defined in Part 3 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.
Following an exchange of information and negotiations with U.S. authorities and the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan, the suspect was deported and arrived at Islam Karimov International Airport in Tashkent on July 13. Upon arrival, the individual was handed over to Interpol NCB officers.
The matter of legal accountability is currently under review by Uzbek legislation.
As a reminder, a woman previously wanted via Interpol for violating Article 135 of the Criminal Code (human trafficking) was extradited from Oman to Uzbekistan earlier.
