There are 90 monopoly enterprises in Uzbekistan today.  Farrukh Karaboyev, the deputy chairman of the Anti-Monopoly Committee, announced this at a briefing.

According to him, as a result of the reforms, due to the liberalization of businessmen's access to the markets of 31 goods and services, a sufficient level of competition was formed and monopolies were removed.  The total number of monopolistic enterprises decreased by 20% in the last 5 years and now stands at 90.

Also, the number of state-owned enterprises has decreased from 3,000 to 2,1000 or 30% in the last two years.

To further develop competition in the goods and financial markets, and to ensure the free entry of new participants, the procedures for 185 types of licenses and permits for entrepreneurs have been shortened or simplified.
