1619In Uzbekistan, 2,203 people lost their lives, and 8,901 were injured in 9,364 road accidents in 2024. This was reported today, January 24, during the third plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis by Senator Kutbiddin Burkhonov, Chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security.
"The primary cause of these accidents is the disregard for legal responsibilities by citizens, followed by a lack of awareness of current traffic rules. In addition to preventing accidents, it is our collective duty to safeguard the lives and health of our fellow citizens," the senator stated.
Burkhonov further explained that the analysis of recent studies revealed that current traffic violation legislation lacks effective deterrents, with the uncertainty of punishment being one of the main contributors to the rising number of road accidents.
