10456A project to build a railway through Afghanistan to the Indian Ocean has been put forward in Uzbekistan. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted this at the plenary session of the "Voice of the Global South" summit held online today, 12 January under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi.
It is noted that the railway leading to the Indian Ocean through Afghanistan will be implemented as part of the "North-South" international corridor and will be aimed at strengthening the interdependence of Central and South Asia.
The leader of Uzbekistan called on partners to participate in this important project.
Also, in order to ensure peace and security at the global level, Mirziyoyev called for support for the proposal to form an international dialogue group on solving the problem of Afghanistan, which is being put forward by Uzbekistan.
It should be noted that at the beginning of 2021, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan signed a "road map" for the new transport corridor: Termiz - Mazari-Sharif - Kabul - Peshawar.
It should connect the European Union, and Russia with the countries of Central Asia, as well as India and the countries of Southeast Asia.
For reference, Uzbekistan planned to build a railway through Afghanistan that would reach the sea. Several large projects have been prepared for this purpose. In July 2021 in Tashkent city at the major international conference "Central and South Asia: regional cooperation, threats and opportunities" is aimed at the implementation of these projects. In addition, during his visit to the Surkhandarya region in June 2021, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev praised the construction of the "Mazari-Sharif - Kabul - Peshawar" railway, which will lead Uzbekistan to the sea, and called it the "The project of the century." This railway line starts from Termiz, the administrative center of the Surkhandarya region.
