Demographic growth of the population in Uzbekistan slows down

7393The demographic growth of the population in Uzbekistan has decreased by 2.1% compared to the same period in 2023, according to a report by the Statistics Agency.
As of July 1, 2024, the population of Uzbekistan is 37.1342 million people, comprising 18.6967 million men and 18.4375 million women. This represents a 2.1 percent increase, or 761,800 people, compared to the same period last year.
However, the rate of population growth in the republic has started to slow down. In the corresponding period of 2023, the population growth was 2.2 percent, or 768,800 people.
From January to June 2024, 97,400 marriages were registered in Uzbekistan, a decrease of 1,265 compared to the same period last year. Compared to the corresponding period in 2022, this is a decrease of 11,534. The average age of women at marriage was 22.9 years, and the average age of men was 27.8 years. Of the total marriages recorded, 76.2 percent were women under the age of 25. Most marriages occurred in the age group of 20-30 years.
The number of divorces in the first half of 2024 amounted to 22,467, which is 11.6 percent (2,955) fewer than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
During this period, the number of divorces due to childlessness was 10,479 (46.6 percent), divorces with one child were 6,616 (29.4 percent), and divorces with two or more children were 5,374 (24 percent). The average age of divorced individuals was 37.1 years for men and 32.2 years for women.
It is worth noting that a UN report titled "World Population Prospects for the Year 2300" projected that the population of Uzbekistan will reach 74.2 million people by January 2100.
