Name of the year 2025 in Uzbekistan was announced

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed to declare 2025 as the "Year of Environmental Protection and the 'Green' Economy" in Uzbekistan. He spoke about this today, November 20, at the meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

The gathered officials fully supported this initiative.

During his speech, the President noted that not only Uzbekistan, but many countries worldwide are feeling the negative consequences of climate change. Air and water pollution, soil erosion, desertification, and excessive use of fossil fuels are leading to global warming, an increase in natural disasters, and harm to the environment and public health.

In response to this, the national project "Green Space" was launched in Uzbekistan three years ago. Along with neighboring countries, the implementation of the Regional Climate Strategy has begun. The Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies was established in the capital city of Tashkent.

Furthermore, Uzbekistan initiated two important resolutions adopted by the United Nations in this regard. "Green" energy is also becoming one of the key economic drivers.

Let us remind you that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke at the plenary session of the World Leaders Summit during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Climate Change (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on November 12. He put forward several initiatives and invited the representatives of COP29 countries to meet on May 15 next year, as well as to participate in the global festival of Digital "Green" initiatives held in Orolboyi on International Climate Day.
