The press service of the Legislative Chamber reported on the possibility that the 11th of November  will be designated as a non-working holiday in Uzbekistan.  In relation to this, the draft law “On additions and amendments to Article 208 of the Labor Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was discussed at the meeting of the faction of the “Adolat” democratic party in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

Trade unions are regarded as the largest public organisation in Uzbekistan, uniting more than 5.5 million employees, a figure which is continuously increasing.   The 11th of November is therefore considered as theTrade Union Day of Uzbekistan and is widely celebrated by all workers in the Republic.

However, the current laws do not recognize the 11th November as a non-working holiday.  Moreover, the specific details for organizing holiday events and steps needed to motivate employees have not been determined.

According to reports, with this draft law, additions are being made to the Labor Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at adding 11th of November to the list of non-working holidays.

“Members of the faction supported this draft law, noting that it serves to further strengthen the system of ensuring the professional, labor-related, socio-economic rights of employees,” the report says.
