In January, 277,000 citizens found employment in Uzbekistan. Of these, 91,000 secured permanent jobs, while 153,000 started their own businesses. This was announced today, February 3, at a meeting on employment and investment chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

At meetings held in December and January, major targets were set to boost job creation. The president stressed that “2025 will be the most important and decisive year in ensuring employment and reducing poverty.” This year, the plan aims to employ 5.2 million people, lift 1.5 million out of poverty, attract $42 billion in foreign investment, and increase exports by $30 billion.

Initial steps have already been taken. According to reports, “new approaches to poverty reduction are being introduced in 32 areas. Recently, groups of specialists from ministries and governments have visited China and exchanged experiences. Now the opportunities in the regions will be explained to the population and help them earn income.”

Jobs and investment go hand in hand. This year, 8,000 projects worth approximately $14 billion are planned, creating 272,000 permanent jobs. In January alone, Uzbekistan received $3 billion in foreign investment, with the same amount expected in February, alongside the launch of 623 new projects.

At the meeting, officials were urged to speed up project implementation and work more effectively with investors. Since the beginning of the year, Uzbekistan’s exports have already reached $1.3 billion. Authorities were tasked with working closely with foreign partners, supporting entrepreneurs in accessing international markets, and encouraging new enterprises to focus on exports.
