3112On May 20, at the conclusion of high-level talks in Budapest, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán signed a joint declaration on the establishment of enhanced strategic partnership relations. The announcement was made by the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.
In the presence of both leaders, several intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents were exchanged. These included an extradition treaty, an agreement on cooperation in the field of climate change, and interdepartmental agreements on collaboration in natural disaster management, science and innovation, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
For reference, earlier this year, on March 12, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace, resulting in a historic agreement to establish strategic partnership relations between Uzbekistan and France.
It is worth recalling that prior negotiations between President Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Orbán were held in both narrow and expanded formats at the Carmelita Palace in Budapest. The discussions focused on further strengthening Uzbek-Hungarian strategic ties and expanding multifaceted cooperation. At the end of that meeting, President Mirziyoyev extended an official invitation to Prime Minister Orbán to visit Uzbekistan.
