The portfolio of joint projects of Uzbekistan and the World Bank has exceeded 10 billion dollars

Today, on 9 March, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde.  This was reported by the Press Service under the President's Administration.

It is noted that the meeting discussed the urgent issues of expanding the strategic partnership and multilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Bank group, as well as the active participation of this leading international institution in promoting the reform program in our country.

At the beginning of the meeting, the head of state warmly congratulated Anna Bjerde on her recent appointment to a new position and wished her great success in her responsible work.

Issues such as combating poverty, transforming the energy sector, expanding practical cooperation in the fields of privatization of state enterprises, and supporting social programs were included on the agenda of the meeting.

It is noted that the portfolio of current projects with the participation of the World Bank has doubled in the next few years.  In general, the bank's investments in Uzbekistan reached 10 billion dollars.

It is reported that as a result of the fight against poverty, the transformation of the energy sector and the transition to a "green" economy, the initiation of privatization, the development of a strategy for attracting foreign investments, the support and promotion of the health system, significant results have been achieved in other directions.

Also, the bank intends to actively support large-scale plans for fighting against poverty, develop a strategy for the development and financing of business projects, modernize rural infrastructure and middle cities, employ women and vocational training of young people, and implement a health strategy until 2030. 

At the meeting, priority areas of cooperation were defined as decarbonization of the economy and development of alternative energy, master plans in the field of electricity production and transmission, energy efficiency improvement program, and the development of a stable operation mode of the energy system in emergency situations, attracting expert support and financing to hydropower projects.

In addition, it was noted that the opportunities of the World Bank's "Country Platform" will be widely used to promote reforms and priority projects.

It was agreed to adopt a joint "road map" to speed up the preparation and implementation of priority projects.
