208 km of the problematic border remains between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan – media

Talks between the governments of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on the demarcation of some parts of the state border began on 9 August.  The local press of Kyrgyzstan wrote about this.

It is noted that negotiations are being held in the city of Cholpon-Ota, Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan.

According to a special representative of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Nazirbek Borubayev, the parties intend to clarify the positions of the countries on previously not agreed upon sections of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border.

He added that the 1,170-kilometre border between the two countries had now been agreed upon. The remaining 208 kilometers of the border must now also be agreed upon.

Nazirbek Borubayev said that the two governments plan to complete border issues this year.

For reference, the length of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan is 1,378 kilometers, 85 percent of which have been identified.
