Reports are circulating on social media claiming that students from Tashkent State Medical University are being forcibly sent to Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod, where martial law has been declared.

According to these reports, one person was killed and two others were hospitalized following a Ukrainian attack on an industrial zone in the Nizhny Novgorod region on August 11.

Social media sources allege that a former rector had promised to transfer students to Kazakhstan, but the current rector, Shuhrat Baymuradov, has refused to carry out the transfer decision.

“Students were given an ultimatum: either go to Russia or have their studies terminated. This only became clear recently—since private medical universities stopped accepting transfer students, they have been left without alternatives,” the unofficial reports stated.

Qalampir.uz contacted the press secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovations, Nazokat Abduqunduzova, to clarify the situation. She said that an investigation is underway and additional information will be provided soon.
