Uzbekistan enters the TOP-20 in the world ranking for the first time in the history of chess

For the first time, Uzbekistan was listed in the top 20 in the world chess ranking, which is maintained by the International Chess Federation - FIDE.  According to the rating for July 2022, Uzbekistan ranked 19th in the world chess ranking.

The United States (1st place), Russia (2nd place), and China (3rd place) control the top rating of the list.  India, home of chess, took 4th place in the ranking.  The top ten included Ukraine (5th place), Azerbaijan (6th place), France (7th place), Germany (8th place), Armenia (9th place), and Spain (10th place).

In the world ranking, Uzbekistan goes ahead of Argentina (20th), Georgia (22nd), Serbia (23rd), Iran (24th), Italy (25th), Bulgaria (26th), Romania (27th), Cuba (30th place) and Turkey (31st place).  The rating was completed by Qatar (153rd place), Eswatini (154th place), and the Virgin Islands (155th place).

For reference, a 17-year-old chess player from Uzbekistan Nodirbek Abdusattarov is the fifth youngest grandmaster in the world.  Nodirbek was awarded the rank of grandmaster at the age of 13 years, 1 month, and 11 days.  He became the World Rapid Champion at the 2021 World Championships in Warsaw, Poland.

Another well-known Uzbek chess player, Rustam Kasymjanov, received the title of grandmaster in 1997.  In 2004 he became world champion and in 2010 won the Asian Games held in Guangzhou.
